Wenn man mit dem eigenen Boot in US-amerikanische Gewässer einreist, erhält man eine sogenannte Cruising Licence. Diese erlaubt, sich für ein Kalenderjahr beliebig in US-Gewässern aufzuhalten, überall wo man möchte. Man muss nur bei Standort- bzw. Bundesstaatswechsel kurz telefonisch bescheid sagen. Das ganze ist recht einfach und auch kostengünstig, wir haben letztes Jahr einmalig $18 bezahlt. Ohne Lizenz oder wenn sie abgelaufen ist, kostet es bei jedem Standortwechsel (zu dem man sich melden muss) denselben Betrag (so unsere Information). Jetzt wollen wir uns demnächst mit Kassiopeia bewegen, ihre Lizenz ist aber seit Anfang April abgelaufen.

Und nun kommt Betty in Baltimore ins Spiel. Man bekommt nämlich so ganz eigentlich nur eine neue Lizenz, wenn man inkl. Boot für mindestens zwei Wochen das Land verlassen hat. Wir hörten von unterschiedlichen Seglern, dass Betty da etwas großzügiger ist, also sind wir heute nach Baltimore gefahren und haben die Zollbehörde besucht. Und wir haben Betty zwar gesehen (eine sehr herzlich wirkende Frau mit einem kunterbunten Schreibtisch), aber gar nicht gebraucht: ihre beiden Kollegen haben uns ohne großes Brimborium ganz einfach eine neue Lizenz ausgestellt, für die wir noch nicht mal zahlen mussten. Die Einlasskontrolle zur Behörde hat länger gedauert als der komplette Rest.

Wunderbar, somit war noch genug Zeit, ein wenig am Hafen entlang zu schlendern und das perfekte Wetter zu genießen. Baltimore gefällt uns gut, architektonisch wirklich schön und gerade das Gebiet um den inneren Hafen ist sehr angenehm gestaltet. Preislich ist es nicht so ganz unsere Liga, ein Parkplatz für knapp fünf Stunden ist nicht unter $30 zu bekommen und z.B. der Eintritt ins Aquarium ab $25 oder in die im Hafen liegenden historischen Schiffe ab $15 finden wir einfach ein wenig teuer. Den Spaziergang in der Sonne gab es gratis!
